Why Bio-One?

Why you should choose Bio-One

Image

Bio-One was founded over 20 years ago by Nick-Anthony Zamucen. He found the concept of the business by simply doing what felt right in his heart. A member at his church unfortunately lost their life, leaving a grieving family without very much means to clean up the traumatic scene. Nick and a few members of the church decided to come together and help the family remediate the scene. After doing doing so, Nick realized that there are many more people who need help and he made it his mission to help these families. Which at that moment, our main core value and motto took shape "Help first, business second."

Over the course of 20+ years, Bio-One has grown into 100 different locations in 41 states. In the past 3 years alone Bio-One increased its size by 145%!

Why has Bio-One grown so quickly? Why has Bio-One been included in the Entrepreneur Magazine's Annual Franchise 500 report, ranking #1 in its class?

Why has Bio-One been trusted by so many families, businesses, and government agencies to help remediate crime scenes such as Sandy Hook and Aurora, Mandalay Bay and Pulse night club?

Bio-One is different from other companies in many different ways. The biggest difference is our business model is based on crime scene and trauma cleaning, not restoration(water, fire, smoke damage). Restoration companies like to take more than what they need to and remodel the area. Bio-one only takes what we need to but still leave the area in a condition that it can easily be remodeled if its needed.

Another difference is Bio-One NEVER asks for upfront payment to show up to remediate a scene and we help you file the insurance claim. You do not need insurance to use our services, we work with out of pocket payments all the time. Many companies require an upfront fee to come out to the scene then they charge you more after. In some cases they over charge and insurance companies decline their claim leaving the homeowner stuck with the payment. That is not the case with Bio-One, we are here to help you not get rich off of you.

Bio-One is discrete also. We arrive in un-marked vehicles to lessen the our presence at you home or business. Our vehicles are not advertising tools like many other companies vehicles. We are companionate and understanding of the tragic time the family is going through and we refuse to allow the family to be re-victimize the family with unwanted attention. We never disclose what we are doing in your home to anyone and never publicly post you or your family's business. We are here to help you, not use you to advertise.

Bio-One is also quick to respond, typically we can respond to your scene immediately. You are our number one concern from the moment you call us. We don't have to schedule you out 2-3 days or fly someone into your town to come take a look at your scene then wait another 1-2 days for more people to fly in to take care of you. We believe thats NOT how to business. Bio-One makes sure that from start to finish, the job is done correctly and that your family is getting the best care possible. All Bio-One locations are locally owned and operated allowing a quick response time and being able to make sure that everything is perfect for your family. When you call you talk to the local owner not a call center.  We are here to help you, not to use you and forget about you.

We hope you never have to call us but if you do you are in great hands. Bio-One is here to help you no matter what. Bio-One is committed to providing excellent service in recovery and suicide cleanup, homicide cleanup, hoarding situations, junk removal, deceased animal recovery, feces removal, pest and rodent droppings and much more. Each office is independently owned and operated by a member of the local community. Why You Shouldn’t Clean Up Blood Yourself | Crime Scene Cleaners

Why You Shouldn’t Clean Up Blood Yourself |

Crime Scene Cleaners

Why You Shouldn’t Clean Up Blood Yourself At A Crime Scene

Crime scene cleaners are highly experienced when it comes to cleaning up bodily fluid and blood. If a crime has been committed it is our job to take care of the crime scene, once the detectives or police officers have collected their evidence or carried out their investigations. This may be in a public space, an office building or in some cases in a home. With our specialist equipment, highly concentrated cleaning products and decontamination methods, our team will effectively disinfect and clean up the entire crime scene, leaving it professionally deep cleaned and decontaminated. Do not attempt to clean up blood yourself!

Crime scenes should never be attempted to be cleaned without the proper training, PPE, chemicals, and tools. A family should also never have to go through the experience of having to clean up after a traumatic experience. The number one reason a family elects to attempt to clean a scene on their own is money. Many companies charge an upfront fee just to show up! Bio-One NEVER asks for money up front to show up. Our motto is, "Help first. Business second." The professionals at Bio-One are here 24/7 if you ever need us!

Here are three reasons to never clean up blood at a crime scene yourself!

1: Blood Stains Can Be Criminal Evidence

Whether a stabbing has taken place, a domestic incident, a suicide or a murder, never attempt to clean up blood stains or spills before contacting the police. If you attempt to clean up blood before the emergency services have arrived at the scene of the crime, you will be committing a crime. Blood stains, spills or spots are potential evidence and can help police officers piece together the incident and carry out their investigations. Blood will often be tested for DNA or photographed to help investigators decide whether a crime has been committed or not.

2: High Risk Of Infection

If a crime has been committed in your home, this can be a significantly traumatic experience. Once the police have left the crime scene and have told you that it’s OK to clean the property, you should hire professional crime scene cleaners.

If you attempt to clean up blood stains yourself you are putting your health at risk. Bodily fluids and blood spills can carry serious and in some cases life threatening infections and disease. If you don’t protect yourself by wearing the right personal protective equipment such as a hazmat suit, protective glasses, a face mask and a pair of gloves, you could contaminate your hands, clothes and shoes which can spread the fluids to other parts of your property. Not only is this a danger to your health, but cleaning up a crime scene in your own home can also impact your mental health too. Post traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks and depression can all be triggered by witnessing a crime or attempting to clean up a crime scene on your own, so it’s always best to bring in the professionals.

3: Blood Stains Can Be Difficult To Clean

Blood is notoriously difficult to clean. Blood stains can ruin fabrics and soft furnishing and is extremely hard to remove. To clean up blood it’s important to act fast. Fresh blood stains are easier to clean than dried in spots of blood. The best course of action to deal with blood and body fluids at the scene of a crime is to seek professional help. Our highly experienced team of crime scene cleaners can provide a compassionate clean up service that will help restore your home and remove blood stains, spills and smells from the property.

Covid-19 disinfection and why it's important.

professional cleaning essential during a global pandemic

Professional Cleaning Is Essential To Kill Viruses

You might be familiar with the saying, coughs and sneezes spread diseases, but what you might not realize is how tiny airborne pathogens can quickly contaminate surfaces too. During a global pandemic, cleaning needs to be frequent, effective and carried out in a professional manner. This goes for offices, schools, medical facilities, care homes and residential properties. While wearing a face mask will help prevent the spread of airborne pathogens between people, these tiny droplets can easily contaminate surfaces and infect many people. The best way to protect people during a global pandemic is to professionally clean and kill viruses, and practice social distancing, while we wait for a vaccine to be rolled out across the country.

How To Kill Viruses During A Global Pandemic

Whether you need to bring in the professionals to clear out and declutter a home, or you own a business and want to thoroughly disinfect and disinfect your workplace to protect your team, professional cleaning is key. Our dedicated team has the experience and cleaning product knowledge to professionally kill bacteria, viral infections and germs. So let’s take a look at the dangers of not hiring a professional cleaning team during a global pandemic.

professional cleaning essential during a global pandemic

Cleaning Products Need Time To Kill Viruses

While you should clean frequently to minimize the risk of infection during a global pandemic, many people are still unaware of how to properly use different disinfectant products. Some cleaning solutions need to sit on a surface for a certain period of time to eradicate all bacteria and viruses. If you wipe away the solution before the time is up, you are putting yourself and others at risk. Being under the impression that a surface is clean leaves you vulnerable to contradicting viral infections such as Covid-19.

professional cleaning essential during a global pandemic

The Risk of Cross Contamination

Using the same cloth or brush to clean different parts of your home or workplace, can also spread bacteria, germs and viral infections. Let’s say you’re cleaning an office and are wiping down desks. If an employee has Covid-19 and has coughed over their workplace, this is a major risk for the entire team. Using a damp cloth and a cleaning solution to wipe the desk and office equipment down might seem like standard protocol. But, if you are unaware that the product needs time to kill viruses, and you then use the same cloth to wipe down the next desk, you could contaminate your entire office without realizing it. That’s why it’s best to seek professional help especially during a global pandemic. Our professional cleaning team is highly trained in decontamination methods and are experienced in disinfecting both residential and commercial properties. This means you can rest easy knowing your space will be virus and germ free when our team finishes the job.

professional cleaning essential during a global pandemic

Inexperienced Cleaners Pose A Major Health Risk

In the same way a cleaner might cross-contaminate a workspace by using the same cloth or forgetting to leave a disinfectant product to sit and kill viruses, an inexperienced cleaner can also contaminate an area themselves. While a professional cleaning team will wear a hazmat suit during a global pandemic, along with gloves, goggles and a face mask, inexperienced cleaners might not, and so could potentially spread viral infections and bacteria via their shoes, clothes and bags. Even something as innocent as checking your phone while cleaning could cause an outbreak of Covid-19! As a high-touch surface, a phone can be a breeding ground for bacteria, and since you hold it close to your face while talking, has the potential to spread a viral infection quite easily. Our professional cleaning team is highly trained in regards to contamination and will take extra caution when cleaning during a global pandemic in order to kill viruses and disinfect thoroughly.

Protect yourself, your loved ones and your team by hiring a professional cleaning team during a global pandemic.

How hoarding can affect your health

December 19, 2020 by Michael Kishigian

Image

A once taboo and hidden mental health disorder, hoarding, has now taken center stage, being the focus of reality TV and talk shows. This condition causes its sufferers to obsessively hold on to items that others would consider worthless or junk.

Though there is a lot that is still mysterious about this mental health issue, we do know that hoarding is often a comorbidity with other disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). For those battling this disease, the need to save and preserve endless items can take both an emotional and physical toll.

Hoarding behaviors often cause problems in many areas of a hoarder’s life. These can include relationship problems, financial problems, and serious health issues. Today, we are going to examine the multitude of ways that hoarding can affect your health.

THE QUALITY OF THE AIR YOU BREATHE

When a large amount of material collects inside a home, it can quickly lead to a decrease in air quality. Too much dust in the air, foul odors, and potential ammonia from decomposing waste products can cause the air inside the home to be downright dangerous to breathe in. This puts those living in these conditions at high risk for infections and respiratory problems.

SANITATION

People can hoard many different categories of items. For those that hoard living creatures, keeping a sanitary environment can be nearly impossible. Disease travels quickly between pets that are in close quarters, and if their waste isn’t disposed of properly, it can contaminate nearly every surface of your home, as well as the food that you eat.

Image

FUNGUS, MOLD, AND MILDEW

Keeping food well past its expiration date is a problem that many hoarders face. This food eventually spoils and can grow fungus and mold. It can cause a refrigerator to mildew and be overcome with dangerous growths that not only cause extreme odor but also pose a major health threat of illness. Deep disinfection with proper cleaning methods to rid your home of these dangerous byproducts.

PESTS

A home that is full of pet waste and decomposing food is an open invitation to pests such as insects and rodents. These pests can be challenging to get rid of, and they are a known harbinger of diseases that can make humans and other animals severely ill.

PLUMBING PROBLEMS

Plumbing issues are very common in homes where severe hoarding behaviors occur. Having belongings stacked from floor to ceiling and covering every available surface makes it highly likely that items will end up in drains and toilets. Pipes can get crushed or loosened and leaks can go unnoticed, thus turning into major issues. Having non-working plumbing quickly leads to unsanitary conditions that can cause both respiratory and bacterial infections.

As you can see, hoarding can not only cause severe mental stress but multiple physical illnesses. We understand that bringing your home under control may feel overwhelming, but we are here to help. This is our specialty. Let the disinfection professionals at Bio-One work with you to return your home to a clean and safe environment you can enjoy living your life in.

Coronavirus Decontamination:

5 Things to Know When Calling a Professional

December 3, 2020

Have any of your employees or loved ones tested positive for Coronavirus?  If so, you might be wondering what to do. If you decide to call a professional to decontaminate your workplace or home, then it is imperative you hire a licensed, experienced company.

Here are 5 questions to ask a company you are considering to hire:

1.    What chemical are you using, and is it EPA approved for Coronavirus?

2.    Are you properly insured?  Ask to see their Certificate of Insurance (COI)

3.    Is proper PPE (bio suits, gloves, booties, full face respirators) being utilized during the disinfection?

4.    Are the technicians trained in CDC and OSHA Protocols?

5.    Are you a federally registered company? Ask to see their EIN.

If they cannot provide these items, then they are likely not qualified to do this kind of work. Bio-One is the only company that is available nationwide and has extensive experience with infectious disease decontamination.  All Bio-One franchise owners have been thoroughly trained, have the proper chemicals that are EPA approved, and have the proper PPE to ensure not only the safety of themselves, but also to minimize possible cross-contamination.

So, when should you call a professional?  If you, someone that lives with you, or someone you came into contact with tested positive for Coronavirus, make that call. Professional decontamination ensures the best possible result and minimizes the potential spreading of the virus.  However, if no one has tested positive, you may use one of the EPA approved products and try disinfecting on your own (be certain to apply the disinfectants per product specifications). If you don’t feel confident in your ability to disinfect properly, then you might want to have a professional do it.  Professionals, such as Bio-One, are available around-the-clock and understand COVID-19 needs to be disinfected as quickly as possible.

It’s our job and privilege to keep you safe and healthy.  Please don’t hesitate to call or email us with any questions you may have!

Losing a loved one in an accident is incomprehensibly painful. The seeming unfairness and randomness of the moment is almost impossible to accept at first as grieving friends and family members try to rationalize what happened. They often feel guilty for not doing enough to prevent the death despite the fact that the incident was entirely out of their control. But nobody can prepare for the sudden and unexpected. Accidental deaths are by definition unnatural and unintentional. They include slips and falls, traffic accidents, poisonings, accidental weapon wounds, drownings, fire injuries, head traumas, industrial accidents, choking deaths, explosions, and natural disasters. Fatal accidents have always been a leading cause of death in America. But unfortunately, they are becoming more common.

According to the non-profit National Safety Council, accidental deaths increased 96 percent over the last 25 years.  Though they decreased significantly between 1950 and 1980, fatal accidents have been growing rapidly since the mid-1990s.Despite our innovation in creating safer technologies, today’s rate of 52.2 deaths per 100,000 people hasn’t been seen since the mid-1970s. Now, accidents are the number one leading cause of death for people aged 1 to 44, according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and PreventionFor all demographics, they are the third leading cause of death nationwide, with 169,936 deaths reported by the CDC in 2017.

While researchers have not reached a consensus on why accidental deaths are increasing, the NSC points to three trends to explain the rise, including increases in poisonings, motor vehicle deaths and falls among older adults. All of these injuries are preventable, they say, arguing on their website that institutions “have not consistently prioritized safety at work, at home and on the road”. Poisonings, the leading unintentional injury among CDC data, increased 11 percent between 2016 and 2017 The NSC attributes the growth to the opioid crisis, which claimed the lives of 47,000 Americans in 2017 .

To put the CDC data into perspective, 466 people die from accidental injuries every day The number of friends and family members affected by the death of a loved one is even higher, resulting in an ever-growing community of people who must find ways to manage their grief. Bio-One works with these families every day to facilitate their steps towards recovery.

When fatal accidents happen, we dedicate our resources to helping families restore their home or business in a safe, private and efficient manner. Because first responders do not decontaminate crime scenes after they respond to a call, we step in to ensure that families are not exposed to disease and other dangers. Crime scenes harbor harmful bloodborne pathogens that contaminate the immediate area, leaving everyone on the property vulnerable to Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Our licensed technicians use powerful, environmentally safe chemicals to thoroughly disinfect the area so you can rest assured that your family will be safe. We work with an appreciation for your valuables and will replace furnishings if need be. In hoarding situations, we remove clutter that may present a danger to other inhabitants, including feces and other biological waste.

When you give us a call at your local Bio-One office, we’ll immediately connect you with a representative that will address your unique situation. Because we value your time during this difficult moment, a team will be dispatched to your home or business within an hour to complete the service. When they arrive, they’ll come in unmarked vehicles to safeguard your privacy. Our team approaches their work with the sensitivity it demands and endeavors to address your needs with the compassion it deserves. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We are on standby 24/7/365.

We often forget about the people left behind in the wake of a homicide. News stories reveal who died but often fail to identify how their death impacts their loved ones. When someone is murdered, their family, friends and significant others endure one of the most traumatic experiences that anyone can face. These survivors are some of the least researched crime victims in America, and they are everywhere. According to the most recent FBI data, 16,214 Americans were murdered in 2018For every one of those individuals an average of 7 to 10 relatives were severely impacted, according to an estimate by Lu Redmond, a homicide grief expert

If the murder rate remains consistent, Redmond’s estimate means between 113,000 and 162,000 Americans will become homicide survivors each year. That’s in addition to the pool of survivors who already lost loved ones in previous years.  Though the lack of research makes it impossible to quantify how many total homicide survivors there are in America, the number is high enough to warrant concern for how they are treated by health professionals.

For survivors, the grieving process is almost impossible to endure. Though loved ones will grieve in different ways depending on their relationship with the victim, the loss is shocking, unimaginable and absolute. They never had a chance to say goodbye to their loved one, and the plans they both shared will never come to fruition. This realization may be sudden. In some cases, it may take years. Some survivors find it difficult to accept a loved one’s death at first, resulting in a delayed reaction that is triggered by a situation that reminds them of the victim. According to the National Center of Victims of Crime, grief symptoms include shock, disbelief, numbness, changes in appetite and sleeping patterns, difficulty concentrating, anger, confusion, increased anxiety and fear. Financial loss, depression and family conflict are also common symptoms.

Discovering a murdered loved one in the home can trigger post traumatic stress disorder. After the first responders leave the scene, some survivors may feel compelled to clean up the aftermath themselves. Confused that the paramedics don’t complete this work, they may think the cleanup process is their responsibility and act immediately. After all, they want to restore the scene as quickly as possible. Operating in a state of shock, they’ll remove the blood stains, body tissue and contaminated materials from the home without recognizing the threat to their physical and mental health. In addition to exposing their body to dangerous bloodborne pathogens, survivors may experience traumatic flashbacks of the experience in the future and suffer from heightened anxiety and emotional numbness. These PTSD symptoms prolong the recovery process, making it even more difficult for survivors to cope with their new lives.

Bio-One works with communities across the nation to avoid this outcome. We employ certified technicians that respond to scenes of violent crime and clean up dangerous biohazards that pose a threat to you and your family. When we receive a request for our services, we’ll send a team to the job site within an hour to assess your situation and perform a comprehensive cleaning solution that restores the property. Our powerful, environmentally friendly chemicals eradicate harmful pathogens that spread Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV, giving you assurance that you will be safe long after the area is decontaminated. We’ll dispose of the infected materials that cannot be salvaged and replace flooring and other furnishings if we need to. Once the area is thoroughly cleaned, we’ll return it to its pre-incident state so you can focus on recovering.

We conduct this work because we want to help people who have been left to deal with a difficult, painful task. That’s why our company motto is “Help first, business second.” We don’t ask for payment until after the job is complete because we want to remove the safety threat from your home as quickly as you do. Every person on our team will arrive on-site with an understanding of the trauma you are going through and a respect for your privacy and personal needs. Contact your local Bio-One office today and we’ll immediately connect you with a representative that can assist you. We are available 24/7/365.

Although eight years have passed since the world’s top mental health experts classified hoarding as a unique compulsive disorder, the problem persists throughout the country. Researchers say that up to 20 million Americans suffer from this illness, which is described as an obsessive tendency to accumulate troves of objects with no practical value.Because hoarding is historically stigmatized and underdiagnosed, this number is likely a conservative estimate. Even more troubling, hoarding is expected to increase as the population ages and mortality rates rise. But the studies that dole out these numbers understandably focus on hoarders over other stakeholders in the community. Hoarders’ actions impact far more people than reflected in the data. Fires and collapsing structures caused by unstable hoarding situations jeopardize the safety of neighbors and government workers. Even animals suffer. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a quarter of a million animals are hoarded each year. But the people afflicted by the disorder’s worst consequences often live in the same household as the hoarder.

Families deteriorate as high levels of dysfunction, increased conflict and financial uncertainty hinder intimacy and devastate the emotional wellbeing of everyone in the home. Objects overwhelm the space and are guarded zealously by hoarders who are pathologically unable to discard anything they deem valuable. Hoarded items commonly include old newspapers, rotting food, cardboard boxes, pets, excessive piles of clothes and furniture that dominates the home. Space becomes constricted and practically unlivable, prompting hoarders to carve narrow passageways out of the clutter to navigate between rooms.

But despite the extreme measures’ hoarders take to endure these living conditions, the situation cannot be controlled. There is no space for shared activities among the family and no room to use necessary facilities like ovens, showers and beds. In fact, the concept of “space” alters entirely. Children may have to sleep on couches in the living room or in bed with parents to circumvent the clutter. Activities like eating, reading and sleeping are subject to the limitations of space and the normalcy of disorder.

The effect of living like this leads to feelings of isolation, depression and vulnerability. Confounded by the fact that the hoarding family member is usually controlling, stubborn and sensitive to criticism, other people in the home often feel undervalued and powerless. Any attempts to remove the clutter are met with fierce opposition and outrage by the hoarder, who suffers from severe distress when confronted with the notion of losing their valuables. Aware of these consequences, the family usually lives in isolation, refusing to invite friends and relatives over to the home out of embarrassment. These claustrophobic conditions extend to the mind, which is overwhelmed by feelings of frustration, helplessness and anxiety. Financial strains ensue as the hoarder spends money on items that have no discernable value to other family members. As the acquisition of objects greatly outweighs the removal of other objects, credit limits are reached and space disappears, leading to home maintenance fees, financial debt and increasingly frequent family altercations.

Onlooking children often find themselves torn between parents in these situations. Child protective services may be invoked at some point, breaking up the family and degrading the bond between child and parent even further. This possibility weighs heavily on the minds of older children, who often feel compelled to silence for fear that they will be relocated by the authorities. Child protective services are often justified in removing them from the home. Households governed by an extreme hoarder are vulnerable to disease, air pollutants, pests and fires. Children in these homes also face stunted social and cognitive growth as they endure harsh living conditions and parental strife. Moreover, research indicates that hoarding behaviors are learned and adopted by the children of hoarders, who may subsequently pass these tendencies down to their own kids.

The strains that hoarding places on families illustrates why reaching out for help is so important. If you or a loved one are affected by this destructive disorder, please contact Bio-One for assistance. We remediate homes affected by hoarding on a daily basis and can connect you with tools that can help. We are on standby 24/7/365.
